Hummer Hammer

The skies were pretty dark at the start of my race. They seemed to get darker as the race went on. I was hoping for no rain, as I didn't want to wreck two races in a row. Not sure exactly how many women were in the race today. I'm going to guess a maximum of 10. Pretty small field. For those of you who haven't raced this course, it looks like this ---> T. Yes, that's right. Three 180 degree corners. That's basically it. The wind was the main factor in this race, aside from the cornering skills. Unfortunantly we were staged with the Cat 5 men and Juniors. Not sure what's up with the mixed fields but oh well. The women started a few seconds behind the rest. Jane from ICCC quickly put the hammer down on the first lap. Then it eventually split up to just three of us: Jane and Connie from ICCC and myself. Towards the end of the race we caught the Cat 5's and passed them. Not so good on my part. The Cat 5's then passed us so we hopped on. Unfortunantly, Jane and I were soon gapped off from Connie. Anyway, it was just the two of us left for I think 4 laps. I attacked going into the last corner and held off 2nd place. A few comments about the race: There was an air show going on during the race. It was fun to watch while pedaling along. Of course a few of them were a little loud and scared the crap out of me. But it was fun! Also, mixed categories is never fun. It's just something I've got to get used to I suppose. I don't feel comfortable racing against people I haven't raced against. I don't know how the handle their bike, etc. Anyway, that's all I got for now. I'll try to leave you with some pictures of the race. Not sure what race is up next. I need to check some schedules. Might just be a longish ride on Sunday. Good night!

Good job at the race Amanda, nice work at the end too, smart riding.

I think I got some good pictures of you, Jane, and Connie yesterday. I'll try to get them up tomorrow.

Nice job yesterday Amanda, glad you're feeling better already. I think you were able to us your black eye and road rash as an intimidator for the other racers yesterday :)
