I didn't end up going to Waverly today. I got up at 6:15 and looked West. The clouds were pretty dark. Checked the radar and decided not to go. Instead, Tracy, Dom., and I went to Sugar Bottom. I would have liked to race today and definitely would have, but considering the torrential down pour that's been going on here for over an hour straight, I'm glad I didn't. Plus driving over 3 hours to race in mud didn't sound appealing. I guess I'm not very hard core, which is alright by me. Sugar Bottom was fun though, and only an hour and 15 minute drive. The trails were awesome and my bike even got dusty. There's still part of the trail that is under water though. It's right where you start at. I think it's just the gravel road, but they made a bypass where you come into the beach area. It really didn't take out much length of the trail. Each lap was around 11.75 miles. We did two laps for a near 24mile day on the mountain bike. It felt good, except for when I biffed. Yea, that wasn't pretty. I slid out in a corner and now my thigh is pretty scratched up. The bike came out ok, which I was more concerned about at the time. I got up immediately and continued riding. Later on I about fainted because it hurt so bad, or maybe it was the blood, I don't know. Anyway, finished the lap and called it a day. We were going to do another lap excluding the black trails, but saw it was getting darker out and sprinkles were starting to fall. A cool thing though was that the Cannondale demo people were there. I didn't test ride a bike though. Asked a few questions. Sort of wish I would have bought a System Six. Oh well, the CAAD9 is out of commission as of now anyway. Still trying to decide whether or not I should splurge and buy Dura Ace for it or what. Probably should hold off for a while. Anyway, rain sucks, but it looks like it's here to stay for a week. Kind of screws up this weekends plans. Hopefully the trails in Washington can handle the water and aren't soupy for the race on Sunday. That's all for now. Happy trails (or road, whatever).

wussy!
Amanda, I didn't read my blog until I got back from IA and was afraid to have missed you:)
We drove out Saturday, so there was no turning back, since I live in Omaha, NE. I race beginner and the rain started with the race...you didn't miss anything but a lot of MUD and very COOL temps. I felt sorry for the organizers. It's such a great course! What races will you do next?
Take care, Christine
Mud is for cross season and single speeds.
