CompuTrainer

Sunday I headed up to Moline to try out Donnie's CompuTrainer races. The course was 16 miles of the '96 Olympic Road Race. Here's the elevation map of the course:

If you have ever done a CompuTrainer race before, you will know that this map is very general. The actual race profile on the CompuTrainer screen looks a lot different. There are several grade changes. I recommend everyone go and try one of these races. It's a great workout and provides tons of information. Donnie has 8 different slots set up at his place (Donnie's Indoor Cycling Experience) in Moline and holds races every weekend until sometime in March. Here's what I learned from the race:

My average wattage was just over 200 watts. I didn't really have a clue what watts were and how to compare them to whatever. Now I understand that weight is a key factor in determining watts. So, on an individual basis, you can't compare watts with each other unless you weigh the same. The factor you can compare is the Kg/Watts ratio. Mine was like 2 or something to that affect. I can't exactly remember. My maximum wattage was 422 watts. My time for the 16 miles was 48:15ish, averaging just shy of 20mph. The CompuTrainer set-up also does average cadence. My average was 94rpm. This set-up does a whole lot more, but we didn't really get into that much detail. Donnie showed me the spin-scan and how you can make your pedal strokes more efficient. It was hard and I couldn't get it to the most efficient pedal. It provides enough information to make your head spin. I wish I had a CompuTrainer! Time to start saving, especially if I go through with the surgery.

In other news, I did the race to see where I was at as far as training. I haven't done anything to see where I was at since Jingle Cross Rock at Thanksgiving. I still don't know if I feel up to par or not. I guess February 25th will tell me if this hard work has paid off. Not sure if hard work is the right word for it though.

It snowed again today. I really hope it gets above 25 degrees soon! Rollers are starting to take their toll on me! That's all for now! Good night!
