Back in Colorado

Arrived in Colorado late last night. I took a different route this time. I-80 can be very stressful with all the semi's and high speeds. I opted for the Highway 34/Highway 6 route. Definitely more scenic and way less stressful. I would go several miles without meeting another car. It was nice. Nebraska is still flatter than Iowa though.

Got up early this morning and went snowshoeing up by Cameron Pass again. Our destination was Lake Agnes, but we never found it. Here's some pictures:

Today's route was really steep in sections. We were following a trail made by some tele-skiers. Part of the reason we never made it to the lake.

Right at tree line. That clearing towards the bottom of the picture is about the half-way point of today's route. Everything before the clearing was hard packed and easy to hike. After the clearing it was quite a bit tougher. Steep and deep snow.

When snowshoeing, you want to avoid walking below stuff that looks like this.

The hike was worth the views though. We were across the valley from those peaks.

Legs are tired from the 4+ hour hike. All of it was done above 10,000feet. Kind of sucked since I just came back from being at 700feet. I have this entire week free, so I'm planning on doing some more snowshoeing. Was supposed to head to Tucson tomorrow until Friday, but things changed at the last minute. Oh well, the weather is supposed to be ok here, so I'll be able to get out for some rides.

In other news:
It was great being back in Iowa and getting to see everyone again. Logged some nice rides. I was a little hesitant about coming back out here. Iowa is very different in Colorado as far as lifestyle. Completely different pace for sure.

I posted my tentative schedule for 2008 under the schedule link.

This guy broke the state roller race record while doing his first roller race of the season. Awesome job!

School starts Tuesday, January 22nd....

I'm pretty sleep deprived right now but just ate some ice cream and a Snickers bar so I'm not feeling tired at the moment.

Random Pictures:
The first century of 2007 for me (and yes, I really do mean 2007). We did this ride on December 30th.

Maggie likes my bed.

I guess that's it for now. Time to get some shut eye. Enjoy!!

Looks like fun. Maybe not as much fun as a set of tele-skis, but fun nevertheless. Be careful.

I would suggest tele-skis for sure next time. Way easier going down.
