Eagle Point Criterium

Yesterday was the Eagle Point criterium in Dubuque. Awesome views, I must say! This race took place on top a bluff of the Mississippi River. The course itself wasn't hilly, but there were some major hills on the way to the race. I raced this course last year so knew what to expect. The wind wasn't too much of a factor because of the trees. Not sure how many women raced today (maybe 15ish). The usual faces showed up, along with a few newbies and even a few women from Wisconsin. This was my first criterium with a teammate. It was nice to have another person working on the same team for a change. Andrea worked hard and I don't think I could have finished as well without her. The race went on, Connie Inks attacked a lot. I through out a few attacks but really wasn't sure how I was feeling. My lungs are still messed up from this stupid cold I have. Not to mention, both my dad and sister are sick. Anyway, nothing too exciting happened. The race peeled itself apart and eventually there were 6 or 7 of us in the lead group. The last lap came and I knew it would be a sprint finish. Connie sent out one final attack and got a small gap. I was able to jump across. I quickly found Anne Myers wheel and it was all out from there. The sprint was downhill. We reached speeds around 34-35mph. It was left for Anne and I to duke it out in the sprint. Anne took the win and I came in second. I'm pleased with that. Anne is super strong so it's always a challenge sprinting against her. Here's a picture of the finish from Rick Paulos.

I'm started to feel better and hopefully I can shake this cold before next weekend. Up next is Old Capitol Criterium. I don't think I can race on Saturday now. I all of a sudden am scheduled to work at the shop after I've been scheduled off for a week now...what kind of BS is that? Might have to call in sick. Anyway, that's all for now. I'll try to post some pictures from the race eventually. They will be located under the picture tab. Take care and good night!

Excellent. It is really good that Connie's attacks didn't soften you up. You've got to be happy with your form.
